Born in 1854 William Alexander Smith founded the Boys' Brigade on 4th October 1883 in the Free College Church Mission, North Woodside Road, Glasgow. He was knighted in 1909 for his services to the youth of Great Britain. Our patron is H M Queen Elizabeth II. A short history of our company.
The company first met in the School hall of Park Avenue Methodist Church, Northampton, on 26th October, 1945. M Richardson was the Captain, D Walmsley and D Hardwick were his Lieutenants. 8 boys came to that first night, Eric Bullock, John Care, John Dickens, Trevor Dickens, David Hardwick, Jack Richardson David Risdale And Francis (Frank) Mortimer. 7 of them came to our 50th celebrations and the 8th sent apologies from Australia. We have met continuously ever since. For more details visit the Company History pages.
